The production version of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, unveiled at the International Motor Sports Show in New York in February 1954, was based on the racing sports car of the 1952 season. Its most distinctive feature – the legendary gullwing doors – was inherited from the race car and earned the vehicle the nickname “Gullwing” in the English-speaking world.
This unusual design was not conceived as a publicity-driven styling feature. As with the racing version, it was the result of a technical necessity: the lightweight tubular space frame, adopted from the competition car, weighed only 50 kilograms while offering exceptional rigidity. However, its construction height made conventional doors impossible, leading to the creation of the now-iconic gullwing doors.
This dream car is available here as a 1:38 scale model. The toy car is a faithful replica of the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing.
The integrated pull-back motor ensures plenty of driving fun for both young and adult fans of this timeless and world-famous classic.
